OPTIX Optometry Workstation

Duration: 2 weeks | 2025 Spring Project Type: Problem Solving | HAAG-STREIT competition | Industrial Design Goal: Design a compact, ergonomic workstation that streamlines optometry exams and improves user experience.

Problem

Existing optometry seating often lacks adequate space and accessibility for patients with larger body sizes or mobility challenges, such as wheelchair users. This limits comfort, usability, and inclusivity during eye examinations.

Shaped Through Parametric Methods

Using Grasshopper, I developed a parametric structure for a breathable, lightweight TPU 3D-printed cushion. Areas subjected to greater pressure were designed with larger, less dense crystal-like forms to enhance comfort and adaptability.

Modular. Recyclable. Durable.

The 3D-printed structure is wrapped in medical-grade soft-touch TPU layers, making the entire upholstery recyclable. Worn sections can be individually replaced, extending the product’s lifespan and minimizing wast
